Unsteady Heart

Unsteady heart,

bearer and barometer,

I always knew you

somehow flawed,

your timing often off,

your fervor

your unresponsiveness

at times

baffling and

Sometimes you felt

too fast for the world,

an aquamarine flash

of a hummingbird.

But then you’d pause

till all went black --

till all collapsed --

returning me

as a fragment.

Unsteady heart,

of syncope,

agent of destiny,

only part of

what's left of me

asks for mercy.
